Cable TV Solar Interference

Important Details Regarding the Impact of Solar Interference

Solar Interference occurs twice each year when the orbital positions of satellites, which deliver television service, and the sun, are in one line. The rays from the sun to the earth are so powerful that they subdue signals sent from the satellite to the earth resulting in brief, temporary interruptions to television service. Solar outages affect all satellites that deliver video programming and are completely beyond our control. This means all video customers are temporarily impacted.

This will occur from March 7 to March 11, 2019.

Solar outages will occur at different times each day on different channels. Interruptions can last for just a few seconds to up to 10 minutes a day and the impact can range from mild to severe.

Customers may see a pixilated television picture which may gradually deteriorate to the point of a total outage. Some channels will also experience blocks or freeze frames. Unfortunately, there is nothing technical that can be done to prevent the effects of nature’s sun outage. Therefore, there is no need to notify Hotwire or your property manager if you notice any of the effects described above.

Any interference will gradually decrease and the channel will return automatically. No channel will be affected for longer than 10 minutes.

We apologize for any inconvenience and we thank you in advance for your patience.
